What began as a hobby in 2006 serves as the motivation and drive that propels our mission at Hayworth Vineyards and Hayworth Estate Wines today.
Our original small blocks of Pinot Noir, Pinot Gris, and Gamay Noir were grafted onto 101-14 improved root stock and planted in the summer of 2006. Overhead sprinklers were used to get them established throughout the first year and since then they have sustained themselves on what nature provides with good soil and rainfall. All of these grapevines have performed very well and blessed us with some very nice vintages to enjoy.
2015 & 2016
With the launching of Hayworth Estate Wines came the need for more wine grape production. We were fortunate to have adjacent acreage next to our original blocks to expand our planting operations. During the summer of 2015 we chose to increase our Pinot Noir production by choosing Dijon clone 115 grafted to 101-14 rootstock on tall vines. Watering was done efficiently through drip irrigation. The commitment to the 3’ tall vines was an investment in grow time that should result with a decent harvest and reasonable yields for 2017.
In addition to the Pinot Noir we have also planted acreage to Chardonnay, Dijon clone 96 grafted on improved rootstock, tall vines. We are very excited to develop our estate grown Chardonnay from this block that we’ve designated “Patricia’s Vineyard” in honor and loving memory of Patricia “Pat” Hayworth.
During the summer of 2016 Pinot Gris expansion was also carefully planted in two small blocks nestled next to the Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. Our new Pinot Gris blocks designated “Doreen’s Vineyard” are dedicated to the honor and loving memory of Keely’s mother Doreen Brailsford.
All of the vineyards are pruned and ready for this year’s growth. We have made plans to expand acreage of our Gamay Noir this summer and are very excited about the future and increased popularity of this up and coming varietal.
